Miravet Cherry Fiesta

On the second Sunday in June Miravet holds its annual  Cherry Fiesta in the large square by the riverside -Plaza del Arenal. Its fabulous location by the River Ebro, the Castle of Miravet looking down from above and great atmosphere makes this a popular fiesta for both tourists and the residents of  Miravet its surrounding villages.

Cherry - One of the fruits of the Ebro Valley

On the stalls laid out in the square, the local growers proudly display a selection of their crops  – an amazing variety of sizes and colours of cherry.  Music and various activities – including a cherry- stone spitting contest keep the crowds entertained throughout the day!

The Day of the Cherry it may be, but one of  the highlights  is  the lunch of Giant Paella!  Made on site over an open fire the sight and smell of the paella being prepared is guaranteed to stimulate a good appetite!

Tickets for lunch  have to bought in advance. The price is around 10E per person for which you get a paella, water, wine, bread, cherry cake and you even get to keep the ceramic dish it is served in! If you don’t fancy paella you can take along a picnic and sit at one of the many trestle tables provided by the Town Hall.  A couple of years ago we took a small BBQ and ended up sharing a table with Germans, French and local Catalans who had also brought their own picnics. It ended up being a very mutli-lingual  meal with  a generous interchange of food too!  And of course for dessert you have to have cherries!

    Hi Glenys

It is usually 2nd Sunday in June – so this year it is on the 12th. You can buy the tickets approx 3 weeks before from the Ajuntament (Town Hall) and from some local shops. A few years ago we bought our tickets on the day – but of course you risk that they have sold out by then.
