About
Hi I’m Dena. Welcome to my blog about our corner of Spain! I live with my husband Keith and our 2 rescue dogs in Mora d’Ebre a small town on the banks of the River Ebro in the Province of Tarragona, Catalonia.
We bought our house here back in Sept 2002 on the 3rd day of our very first trip to the area! An impulsive decision? Sure it was, but we’d seen enough of the area in 3 days to convince us that we’d found somewhere quite special. So, we converted the property to 3 apartments and moved out here permanently in March 2005. We now live in one of the apartments and the other two make up our small business as two holiday rental units.

We’ve always been independent travellers and when our two sons were young we used to take self-drive camping holidays in Italy, France and the Costa Brava, Spain. I love travel books and tourist information offices! So, to come and live in a new country and have two holiday apartments gives me every excuse to I need to accumulate all kinds of leaflets and tourist brochures. Actually when we first came here it was pretty difficult to find much information in English. Over the last few years the Tourist Offices have started to promote rural tourism in Tarragona but you still have to dig around on lots of different websites and not all of it is yet in English.
So, I want this website to be a great source of information for anyone planning to visit Tarragona. Here you’ll find straightforward information and reviews about places to go, things to do, the nature, the history and the culture of Catalonia. More than that, there’ll be practical tips to help you plan your visit and get the best out of it.
Since we live by the River Ebro there’ll be plenty of posts about the Ebro Valley area between Mequinenza and the Ebro Delta but I want to include places of interest throughout the Province of Tarragona. Which means I have a great excuse to have lots of days out! If you are not sure where Tarragona is click on the tab above for a quick overview of the Province.
I’m also going to indulge myself by telling some of the stories of our experience of buying a house here and our day-today life in Spain. The ups and the downs, the traumas and the pleasures!
So, whether resident or visitor I hope you enjoy the site. If you have never ventured away from the popular holiday resorts on the Costas I hope this will encourage you to come and see the riches that rural Spain has to offer.
